Stopping the Filibustering of God

Tue, 09/10/2013 - 11:28am -- Rob
Guard your steps when you go to the house of God.  Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know what they do wrong.  Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God.  God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few...therefore stand in awe of God. - Ecclesiastes 5:1-2,7b

The Holy Spirit Cannot Be Tivoed

Tue, 09/03/2013 - 9:43am -- Rob
We live in busy times.  God, family, work, obligations, sporting events, TV programs, webinars, deadlines, and more, tug at us; competing for our attention and striving to obtain #1 status in our hearts, minds, and lives.  While there's a sense of goodness, maybe even comfort, in knowing that one is in demand; at what cost does busyness take?

A friend recently shared an acronym relating to the word, busy...

Where Do You Place Your Focus?

Mon, 07/22/2013 - 7:39am -- Rob
Last week, a friend reminded me that Christian missions take place everywhere everyday.  When Jesus said, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8), notice that he instructed His disciples to first begin with those nearest themselves (Jerusalem).  Then He'd send them outward from there into nearby cities, towns, regions, then the ends of the world.

Too Busy to Pray?

Mon, 06/03/2013 - 7:00pm -- Rob

Busyness.  For some, it's a way of life.  For others, it's a crutch.  For others still, it's an addiction.  But whichever category you may find yourself in, you either are currently experiencing it, or have experienced it in times past.

Who was more busy than Jesus?

His days were filled with travel, teaching His disciples, speaking to crowds, giving private interviews, healing, and more!  Yet He found time to pray.

Why did He pray, and why was it necessary?

Prayer or Prayerlessness for the Nations?

Tue, 01/01/2013 - 10:17am -- Rob

Last night, toward the close of a year-ending prayer meeting, the Lord led me to seek Him to change the hearts of 1-3 world leaders from worldliness to faith in Jesus Christ in 2013; Saul to Paul conversions, if you will.

As I awoke this morning, the burden to pray this continued. Then I began to think, "The world, and its nations, will change in 2013- as they do every year. Will I seek their change through prayer or prayerlessness in 2013?"

Undoing "Be With" Prayers

Sat, 12/22/2012 - 1:36pm -- Rob

Do you know what I often hear prayed?  Prayers that contain, "Lord, be with ________."

You may hear it prayed too, or maybe it is something you commonly pray.

I hear it often from Christians at church, on the street, and in other places I pray. But what does it mean? Why is it prayed? How Biblical is this type of request? Let's take a look.

The Attributes of God

Tue, 03/20/2012 - 8:35am -- Rob

The Attributes of God

1. You are God our Creator: You have made everything. We worship you.

2. You are the Only God: You are the Lord and there is no other apart from you.

3. You are Almighty God: You are mighty O Lord. There is none like you.

4. You are the Everlasting Father, The Ancient of Days: You are, have been, and will always be.

5. You are a Loving God. Your very nature is love.

6. You are a God of Justice. You are just and justify those who have faith in you.

Transforming Prayer

Sun, 02/05/2012 - 3:38pm -- Rob

There are many books on the subject of prayer on the market today. Some books exhort Christians to pray with greater sincerity, bigger expectations of God, or simply to set aside more time each day to push through personal prayer lists.

While there are helpful tips and tidbits in many of these books, I've found few that have instructed me HOW to pray in a manner that creates greater intimacy with God- one of the great purposes of prayer to begin with!

Timing Your Prayers

Tue, 12/06/2011 - 10:39am -- Rob

Years ago, I came across a website that struck my fancy. It's www.time.gov. It's a neat little tool I now use to target the timing of my prayers (more about this later).

The website first asks the user to click on a map- in order to choose a time zone.

Once a time zone is chosen, the page refreshes and shows the exact time and date. But the really cool thing about this page is what shows up beneath the time and date...
